Located in the vibrant heart of Mexico City at Av. 5 de Mayo, Restaurante Mercaderes stands out as a premier dining destination, seamlessly combining elegance and tradition. Nestled within the historic streets of the Centro Histórico, this restaurant invites food enthusiasts to embark on a culinary journey that celebrates the rich flavors and textures of Mexican cuisine.

As I stepped into Restaurante Mercaderes, I was immediately struck by its elegant ambiance. The polished white linen service is a hallmark of its commitment to creating a sophisticated dining experience. The refined decor offers a warm welcome, setting the stage for the delightful meals to come.

The menu here is a treasure trove of authentic Mexican dishes. Each plate is crafted with care, showcasing artisanal preparations that elevate beloved classics. One standout is the Pato Zacatlán, a duck dish bathed in a rich pear and chipotle sauce, served alongside cinnamon-baked apple. The harmony of flavors in this dish was a revelation, reflecting the restaurant's emphasis on quality ingredients and culinary artistry.

As I explored further, the Molé Poblano con Pollo caught my attention. This dish features tender chicken breast smothered in a handmade mole sauce, served with traditional Mexican rice and crispy chicken chicharrón. The depth of flavor in the mole is a testament to the chef’s skill, and it certainly lived up to its reputation.

Moreover, the Pechuga Mercaderes, a breaded chicken breast stuffed with chihuahua cheese and smoked ham, paired with crispy fries, delivered a comforting familiarity while impressing with its culinary finesse. Each bite brought forth a delightful crunch followed by a creamy richness that made it impossible to resist another forkful.

The restaurant also excels in its grill offerings. The Filete Arriero is marinated in a tantalizing blend of four chiles and served with chorizo and guacamole, while the Arrachera Corte Grueso captivates with its robust flavors, perfectly accompanied by rosemary and tarragon potatoes. The attention to detail in the cooking process ensures that every dish embodies the essence of traditional Mexican cuisine.

Despite the elevated dining experience, the prices remain approachable for the quality offered. Guests have remarked on the exquisite house bread and cocktails, further enhancing the dining experience at Restaurante Mercaderes. As one diner noted, “Every dish is delicious and full of flavor,” a sentiment I wholeheartedly echo after my visit.

Not only does Restaurante Mercaderes deliver on taste, but it also provides a memorable atmosphere paired with exceptional service. Highly rated restaurant that certainly upholds its reputation. Expect excellent white linen service from the staff. Every dish was delicious and full of flavor, uniquely it’s own. The house bread was absolutely delicious and the best I’ve had in Mexico. They can certainly make a stiff cocktail or margarita. I visited during lunch and it was perfect. I would expect dinner service to also be as good. A must try in the historic zocalo district.

Pretty place with service and food on the heighest level. For mexican reality prices are not among the lowest, but IMO the duck that they serve is absolutely worth it. I can also recommend Los Mariscos (seafood). Besides main dishes you will be also welcomed by delicious appetizers.

I only stopped by this location because I thought they were selling homemade gelato that a couple let me try a sample of outside my hotel. The couple pointed me to the restaurant and I was too scared to tell anyone inside that I was confused...so I just went with the flow and thank goodness I did. Amazing food and great prices!

I’m glad I gave this place a try. It’s right at one of the Zocalo corners. The decor is inviting. Place is cute and clean. The service is friendly and respectful. The food is delicious with a twist to a Mexican home made meal. This place also has a great selection of wines. The prices are fair in my opinion. I’ll definitely go back anytime I’m visiting CDMX.

This may have been our best meal so far in CDMX. We snagged an early reservation for dinner, arrived & were quickly seated. We ordered the pan y salsas to start and OMG the bread was the best I’ve had in ages. It was soft, fluffy, cheesy, and spiced just right. It’s served with a tomato with balsamic vinegar, two salsas, butter. Perfection! We both ordered the steak with four pepper sauce, and because I’m a child, I also got the French fries with ketchup. It was all so good we didn’t get many photos. We’re planning to go for breakfast this morning too!
